Grant Opportunities

San Diego Gas & Electric

San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) has kicked-off its annual Environmental Champions initiative, a $1 million charitable giving campaign that funds local environmental non-profit organizations in San Diego and southern Orange Counties.  Applications will be accepted until May 31.

Grantseekers are encouraged to visit the respective webpages of our members to research additional funding opportunities.

San Diego Planned Giving Partnership Incubator Program

The purpose of the San Diego Planned Giving Partnership Incubator Program is to provide resources and hands-on mentoring for local nonprofit organizations developing and implementing endowment programs and planned giving activities for their long-term financial stability.

The Grantmaking Report

This report presents numerical data about philanthropy in the San Diego region.  It was the result of a collaboration between San Diego Grantmakers and the University of San Diego’s Caster Family Center for Nonprofit Research. (2008)

 

Association of Fundraising Professionals, San Diego Chapter
The primary purpose of the AFPSD is to educate and advance the careers of those in the rapidly changing field of development. The Chapter promotes ethical standards, provides a network for members, lists local, regional and national employment opportunities and offers a pool for consultant services.

LEAD San Diego
LEAD provides intense issue-oriented programming, leadership skill building and community volunteerism opportunities to regional leaders.
 

Nonprofit Management Solutions
Nonprofit Management Solutions provides management training, consulting, information and technology resources to nonprofits in San Diego, including customized training, board and staff development, strategic planning, networking, and meeting facilitation. The Resource Library is a cooperating collection of the Foundation Center.

SANDAN provides advocacy and networking for San Diego's nonprofit sector.
  Nonprofit Resource Center
The San Diego Foundation’s Nonprofit Resource Center (NRC) is an information hub (and satellite of the Foundation Center) offering research services, publications, and workshops. It is designed to help nonprofit organizations who seek to further their understanding of the world of philanthropy. The library collection covers subjects of interest to the nonprofit sector including management, governance, best practices, and fundraising.
  SCORE San Diego
SCORE San Diego is part of a national association which serves as a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).  SCORE is a volunteer, non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the success of small business.
 UCSD Extension UCSD Extension, Fundraising and Development Certificate
UCSD Extension offers many courses and a certificate program designed to expose students to a wide range of fundraising methods and tools, including planned giving, capital campaigns, grant writing, and corporate giving.
 USD Institute for Nonprofit Research USD Institute for Nonprofit Education and Research
This site includes information on the institute as well as USD’s degree programs in nonprofit leadership.

The State of Nonprofits Quarterly Index, conducted and published by the University of San Diego's Caster Family Center for Nonprofit and Philanthropic Research, charts the economic health of San Diego's nonprofit sector.

The Center's Nonprofit Best Practice Library consists of exemplary projects completed by graduate students enrolled in the University of San Diego’s Nonprofit Leadership and Management program for, and in collaboration with, nonprofit organizations. The library reflects students' work developing policy, planning, research, and fundraising documents for nonprofit organizations and programs.

National Resources

The Foundation Center

The Foundation Center is a national nonprofit service organization connecting nonprofits and the grantmakers supporting them to tools they can use and information they can trust. The Center maintains the most comprehensive database on U.S. grantmakers and their grants; issues a wide variety of print, electronic, and online information resources; conducts and publishes research on trends in foundation growth, giving, and practice; and offers an array of free and affordable educational programs.  In 2011, the Foundation Center launched a Map of Nonprofit Startup Resources by State, which provides links to helpful resources such as state associations, legal support organizations, and government agencies that provide information on forming a nonprofit in all fifty states and U.S. territories.
BoardSource
BoardSource provides tools and materials on nonprofit governance.
  Charity Channel
Charity Channel includes articles and reviews of periodicals, books, and software on fundraising.
  Chronicle of Philanthropy
The Chronicle provides news and information for nonprofit and foundation leaders, institutional investors, corporate grantmakers, and charity donors. It offers features including lists of grants, fundraising ideas and techniques, statistics, reports on tax and court rulings, book summaries, and a calendar of events.
  The Grantsmanship Center
The Grantsmanship Center offers workshops and training for grantseekers as well as resources.
  Guidestar
Guidestar contains a searchable database of more than 640,000 nonprofit organizations nationwide. An excellent resource for legal and financial data.
  Network for Good
Network for Good is an online charity portal where nonprofits can process donations, send emails, and receive fundraising training while donors can learn about and support nonprofits.
  Non-Profit Guides
This site provides sample grant proposals and other grant writing tools for nonprofits.
  TechSoup
TechSoup offers nonprofits a one-stop resource for technology needs by providing free information, resources, and support, as well as access to donated and discounted technology products.
