If the first things that come to mind when you hear financial management are dollar signs and numbers, you are not alone. But just knowing the numbers on financial statements isn’t enough to fully understand an organization’s financial health. To help grantmakers and their grantees turn financial reports and plans from numbers on a page into strategic tools, SDG and San Diego Social Venture Partners have invited Fiscal Management Associates, LLC (FMA) to lead this hands-on financial management workshop.

This six-hour workshop will help grantmakers learn how to work more effectively with their grantees by supporting their financial management practices. Participants will leave understanding key indicators of financial health based on a grantee’s audited financial statements and the importance of funding full costs from a funder perspective.

Join Us To

  • Understand audited financial statements and foster dialogue related to financial results
  • Learn the importance of net asset composition, liquidity, and leverage as indicators of financial sustainability
  • Understand how fiscal performance is a critical component of any evaluation tool and the industry benchmarks used to identify successful organizations
  • Hear an overview of the “nonprofit starvation cycle” and how funding full costs supports the long-term sustainability of grantee organizations
  • Learn the mechanics behind full cost calculations, and why getting to an understanding of full cost is a critical component of any financial management strategy

This Workshop Will Be Tailored to You!

In preparation, attendees are asked to bring the following documents about one of their grantee organizations:

  • Most recent audited financial statements
  • Organizational and/or project budgets (if available)
