Building on the foundation of the first workshop, we will work together with participants to create tools to help you communicate the value of your corporate philanthropy to key internal audiences including employees and C-Suite leadership. 

Engaged employees properly equipped with the tools to tell your corporate philanthropy story, can become your biggest champions, and can raise awareness of your efforts externally. Effective communication with C-Suite leaders about the connection of corporate giving to business strategy and opportunities can result in enhanced budgets and more resources overall. 

How effective are your communications? Do employees have what they need to tell your story clearly and confidently?  Do you have the right messages and tools to advocate in the C-suite for corporate philanthropy? A simple toolkit - with approved language, key statistics, and shareable stories - can go a long way towards engaging these critical audiences.

This gathering is the fourth in San Diego Grantmakers' Quarterly Corporate Luncheon Series. It is designed for those who work in corporate philanthropy and other invited guests as appropriate. All event registrations are reviewed to determine eligibility. We respectfully request that attendees refrain from engaging in fundraising and other development activities at all SDG events.


Ann Tartre, founder and principal consultant at SustainabilityNext, has 20 years of experience in philanthropy, corporate responsibility and sustainability strategy and communications, with strong topical expertise in environmental issues.

In 2013, Ann founded SustainabilityNext, a boutique sustainability and corporate responsibility consultancy where she and her associates coach and work with a wide range of businesses, from Fortune 500s to craft breweries, assisting them to develop, communicate and report on corporate responsibility efforts, benchmark against industry peers, and engage stakeholders. Ann also conducts research, manages projects and develops strategy and communications for a range of philanthropic clients such as The San Diego Foundation and the University of San Diego.


Tyler J. Wagner is a brand and communications strategist specializing corporate citizenship, sustainability, and social-impact. Career highlights include: serving as the strategic lead for Southwest Airlines’ award winning annual integrated citizenship report: the “One Report”; and leading the development of “The IP Way Forward”, International Paper’s strategy to be among the most successful, sustainable, responsible companies in the world. He has extensive experience in corporate reporting, and has been certified in sustainability reporting through the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). 

Tyler also has a strong background in social-impact and community-based organizations, having served as the Executive Director of Barrio Logan College Institute and as Manager of Business and Community Relations for a San Diego-based community health coalition. He currently serves as a board member for Casa de Amistad.
