The issue of equity—from racial justice to access and opportunity—is at a critical turning point in our country. Some of today's injustices are very visible and some are subtle, persisting relentlessly in institutions and biases that unfairly limit the economic, social, and physical well being of certain groups of people. It is imperative that these inequities be eliminated once and for all, and the philanthropic sector can play a key role in doing so.

This half-day summit connected grantmakers with leading subject matter experts to help us examine our own perspectives and practices, change internal barriers to progress, and direct resources toward efforts that increase equity in a variety of ways. It also marked the launch of a year-long series of learning and convening around the many aspects of equity such as intersectionality, structural racism, implicit bias, gender discrimination, mass incarceration, and the racial mosaic of this country.
