After the deadliest mass shooting in our country’s history this past Sunday, June 12 at a nightclub in Orlando frequented by the LGBTQ community, there’s been an outpouring from the philanthropic sector to help with immediate needs and prevent such tragedies from continuing to be part of our national narrative.

In response, San Diego Grantmakers, Southern California Grantmakers, and Northern California Grantmakers have coordinated this statewide call to:

  • Update funders about what’s happening now in Orlando and within the LGBTQ community
  • Hear from leaders on gun violence prevention work, both within California and nationally, about the complexities of gun violence prevention and their approaches to it
  • We send our deepest sympathies to the victims and their loved ones and stand in solidarity with everyone seeking to recover and rebuild in the aftermath of such violence

  • Fatima Angeles, Vice President of Programs, The California Wellness Foundation
  • David Biemesderfer, President & CEO, Forum of Regional Associations of Grantmakers and former President, Florida Philanthropic Network
  • Michael Fleming, Executive Director, David Bohnett Foundation
  • William Ing, Program Manager, The California Endowment
  • Kevin Jennings, Executive Director, Arcus Foundation
  • Nina Vinik, Program Director for the Gun Violence Prevention Program, Joyce Foundation
