The past few months have seen our binational region racked with a humanitarian crisis the likes of which San Diego and Tijuana will continue to grapple with for the foreseeable future. The continuing crisis is having a profound impact on families and communities on both sides of the border. From the immediate needs of shelter and food security to the long-term consequences associated with trauma and disrupted lives, the crisis is producing dynamics local funding strategies must contend with today and into the future.

Join your San Diego Grantmakers peers and colleagues for a member-led funder briefing on San Diego philanthropy's response to the humanitarian crisis in our border region. Hear from the California Endowment, Price Philanthropies, International Community Foundation and others about grantmaking strategies to support the immediate response and long-term solutions.

Participants will:

  • Hear the latest update and status of the crisis from a cross-border perspective
  • Learn about the ways this crisis intersects with other grantmaking priorities and how local funders have responded and what they are learning
  • Explore the ways we can better communicate and raise the issue in our respective organizations by framing and discussing issues related to immigration and asylum, as it relates to your work in philanthropy, in more productive and inclusive ways

Speakers include:

  • Steve Eldred, The California Endowment
  • Alice Potter Guittard, Price Philanthropies
  • Marisa Aurora Quiroz, International Community Foundation
  • Michelle Jaramillo, Latina Giving Circle (moderator)
