Meeting & Social

Vulnerable populations in our region face uncertainty and a shifting policy landscape. What are we doing to help?
As you may recall, the  Social Equity Funders (SEF) emerged in April 2013 to invigorate San Diego philanthropy’s role in producing economic, social, and physical well being for all San Diego County residents. SEF ignited two exciting projects but has been otherwise dormant in the past year.
Today more than ever, San Diego Grantmakers believes that your work individually and as a group to promote equity in our region is crucial. We urge you to come together to discuss how the Social Equity Funders will “show up” for equity in 2017.
The Leadership Development Project and Social Equity Collaborative Fund were initiated under the auspices of the Social Equity Funders and will have distributed $1.4 million in 2016/2017. Join us on March 10 to hear from people participating in Social Equity Funders initiatives whose work improves equity in our region’s vibrant but threatened communities.

  • The Leadership Development Project (LDP) brings together more than 20 nonprofit organizations working to ensure that our region’s leadership reflects the diversity of the communities it represents.
  • The Social Equity Collaborative Fund (SECF) makes grants under the direction of a cross-sector steering committee that recently received 66 LOIs requesting more than $10 million for racial and economic justice projects.

This gathering will set the stage for an in-depth discussion in April about how you are supporting equity and how a reinvigorated Social Equity Funders group could amplify that work.
