Equity & Innovation Fund

In late 2017, as part of the adoption of our new Strategic Framework, San Diego Grantmakers identified the need to diversify our business and revenue models. The board agreed to launch a new SDG annual fund to provide a mechanism for donations from funders and others energized by our mission, vision, values and key work areas and motivated to accelerate its implementation through 2020.

WHY THE EQUITY & INNOVATION FUND?

The Equity & Innovation Fund will provide the kind of essential general operating support to SDG that is critical to the functioning and sustainability of all nonprofits. Flexible core support helps ensure that in the years ahead San Diego Grantmakers can move to the next level of impact, go beyond our traditional scope of work and constituents, seize fresh opportunities, meet emerging challenges and continue our work as a connector and convener. And in this particular year, the fund will also help prepare us to navigate the potential funding risks associated with leadership transitions as Nancy Jamison steps down as President & CEO of the organization in January 2019.

With this pool of discretionary funds, we will be ready to:

  • champion equity and opportunity in our sector and the communities we serve;
  • contribute to effective change in philanthropy through informed, timely and relevant learning opportunities;
  • facilitate funder and cross-sector collaboration by convening leaders and incubating innovative ideas and co-created solutions;
  • catalyze impact investing as an innovative way to develop new sources of funding for community needs;
  • support new forms of giving like giving circles and explore new membership growth such as small to medium businesses; and
  • expand our role in the policy arena in order to leverage public dollars.

FUEL THE FUND: HONOR A LEGACY

Since many members have inquired about ways to honor Nancy’s passionate leadership of SDG and the region we serve, the SDG Board has asked that this year donations made to our inaugural Equity and Innovation Fund recognize her 13 years of friendship, leadership and commitment to social change.

In order to sustain the legacy set forth by Nancy in partnership with the SDG team and board over the past decade and continue to powerfully connect and activate funders to learn, lead and invest in our community, we invite you to be an inaugural investor in the Equity and Innovation Fund. Thank you for your commitment to creating transformative change in philanthropy and in our community.
