Funders Homelessness - About

Funders Together to End Homelessness San Diego, a collaborative of San Diego Grantmakers, has established a fund to pay for hotel rooms for homeless seniors and others who are at higher risk of contracting COVID-19.

There are over 2000 homeless people in San Diego who are age 65+ living on the streets and in crowded shelters.  In order to protect these seniors from illness and to flatten the curve, we need to quickly move them into hotel rooms.

The County of San Diego, and other government entities, are securing hotel rooms for people who have already contracted COVID-19. This fund expands upon those efforts by targeting people who are high-risk but have not yet gotten sick. Homeless seniors are especially vulnerable to becoming ill, and, once ill, face increased morbidity. We need to act now to prevent them from getting sick in the first place.

Funders Together to End Homelessness San Diego (FTEHSD), a collaborative of San Diego Grantmakers, is a regional collaboration of grantmakers that combine and align resources to actively end homelessness in the county.

FTEHSD's goal is to build a San Diego County network of funders who are committed to solving homelessness through leadership, education, and advocacy; strategic collaboration, alignment and focus of resources; and effective promotion and replication of evidence based practices in our community. It is part of the national Funders Together to End Homelessness network.
