How can San Diego Businesses leverage #PowerForGood?

Wednesday, May 22, 2019

In our last blog post, we shared some of the context around power as the theme for our 2019 Annual Conference on June 4. Power is a concept we tend to shrink away from, but this year we are tackling the topic head on with frank, insightful, and uplifting conversations. We will challenge ourselves to reimagine the power of the social sector - including corporate initiatives and giving programs – as we strive to effectively engage our communities and co-create solutions for the future.

Today we’re profiling our leading conference sponsors – all three of which serve as standout corporate leaders working for the social good in San Diego and Imperial Counties. So how can San Diego businesses leverage #PowerForGood? Get some inspiration below – and make sure to register now for the SDG 2019 Annual Conference: The Power in Philanthropy.

Bank of America

Through its corporate giving, strategic focus areas, and volunteer programs, Bank of America works to build thriving communities in San Diego and around the country. These efforts include advancing economic mobility through workforce development and education, community development, and basic needs. As a financial institution, Bank of America’s community engagement has a two-fold focus:  addressing immediate needs and funding innovative longer term solutions for economic self-sufficiency. One economic mobility effort particularly impactful in the San Diego region has been the Veteran Entrepreneur Lending Program, connecting military veteran business owners with affordable capital to help kick-start and grow their businesses.

Employee engagement in communities where Bank of America operates is another core component. The Bank of America Charitable Foundation Matching Gifts program offers a way to double – up to $5,000 per person each year – employees’ contributions to nonprofit organizations. And, both current employees and retirees who contribute time and service to local nonprofits are further encouraged through the Volunteer Grants Program, which awards mini-grants up to $500 to these organizations.
