Sierra Health Foundation and The Center
Position: Vice President of Policy and Communications

Sierra Health Foundation is a private philanthropy that forges new paths to promote health and racial equity in partnership with communities, organizations and leaders. The foundation is committed to improving health outcomes and reducing health disparities in California through convening, educating and strategic grant making.

Sierra Health Foundation has a broad definition of health, believing there is much more to health than health care. It is influenced by factors that include socioeconomic conditions, environment, education, income and individual behavior choices. The foundation has a bold vision in achieving health and racial equity as we strive toward ensuring everyone has an opportunity to lead healthy lives.

The Center’s vision is for all people in California to live healthy lives. With commitment, creativity and collaboration, The Center works to eradicate health and racial inequities ― policies, practices, attitudes and cultural messages that reinforce differential outcomes by race across the state.

Reporting to the President and CEO, the Vice President of Policy and Communications (VP/PC) is a newly created position that will serve on the combined Foundation and The Center executive team. The VP/PC will lead the development and implementation of an expanded communications strategy to deepen the growing policy and advocacy focus of both organizations. The position’s responsibilities will be focused on ensuring effective communications and public relations between external stakeholders and the Foundation and Center team to advance policy goals.

To achieve these outcomes, the VP/PC will be responsible for communicating, developing, coordinating and implementing public policy and advocacy initiatives, as well as public education strategies in coordination with other departments. In addition, the VP/PC will oversee and supervise a communications and public education team that promotes the Foundation’s and The Center’s mission of health and racial equity through relationship building, branding, print and online materials, social media, special events and conferences, and other marketing/communications activities.
